Our Object this week is a recently donated Ferguson record player from the classic era of vinyl. It has the usual 33, 45 and 78 rpm speeds, and its own speaker, but includes a socket for headphone listening. A radio is also attached. We now have a range of record playing devices, from an early wind-up gramophone to a 1950s radiogram.

Special Exhibition — The Shops of Cefn Mawr, May to August 2019
Our latest Special Exhibition is entitled ‘The Shops of Cefn Mawr’, and displays, through pictures, photos and objects, the busy commercial life that used to be the essence of Cefn Mawr. It will continue until the end of August, so please find time to come in and have a look — and if you have any memorabilia of our shops that you would be happy to loan for the duration of the Exhibition, we would be delighted to receive them. We’d also be keen to receive any memories that you have of the shops and their owners, particularly any photos of them in your possession.

Object of the Week, 22 April
Our Object of the Week is a metal wheel, recently donated. It’s purpose is not quite certain, but ther best suggestion is that it was a wheel for a belt drive, with the belt wrapped around the wheel.
Object of the Week, 15 April
Our Object this week is a cannonball! It was discovered in a garden in Newbridge. We wondered which Battle of Cefn Mawr it came from, but then remembered that Newbridge was the area used by the Wynnstay Estate militia for their manoeuvres, to it’s probably a souvenir shot from that era!
