🌿 Did Your Ancestors Sign the 1923 Peace Petition? ✍️🕊️

Thanks to research by local historian Georgina Gittins of the Cefn Mawr and District Museum, we now know which women from Cefn Mawr and Acrefair signed the historic Women of Wales Peace Petition in 1923.

An incredible 390,296 Welsh women signed in just six weeks, asking the USA to join the League of Nations to promote peace after WWI. The petition was hand-delivered to President Coolidge — though sadly, America didn’t join.

Could your family members be among them? Or maybe the women who once lived in your house? Check the names below ⬇️ and let us know! 🏡

VE Day Exhibition: A Tribute to Courage and Sacrifice

This May, the Cefn Mawr and District Museum proudly presents a special exhibition to commemorate Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the end of World War II in Europe. This poignant and powerful display has been lovingly curated by local historian and collector Liz Bruce, whose dedication to preserving our shared heritage shines through every piece.

The exhibition not only celebrates the relief and joy that came with the end of the war, but also pays heartfelt tribute to those who never made it home. With a rich and evocative collection of photographs, personal stories, wartime memorabilia, and original artefacts, visitors are invited to reflect on both the victory and the sacrifice that defined a generation.

Liz Bruce's thoughtful curation ensures that this exhibition goes beyond the history books. Each item tells a story—some joyful, others deeply moving—capturing the spirit of resilience, unity, and remembrance. It's a fitting tribute to the local men and women who played their part, both on the frontlines and here at home.

We invite you to visit the Cefn Mawr and District Museum throughout the month of May to experience this meaningful exhibition. Whether you're a lifelong resident, a student of history, or simply someone who values the importance of remembering the past, this is an exhibition not to be missed.

Let us come together as a community to celebrate, honour, and remember.
