Our Objects of the Week are two safety leaflets. The Monsanto one we've had for a while, but the Flexsys leaflet has only just been given to us. Both of them describe possible disasters to the area through explosions or chemical leakage, which makes you realise what risks the community in Cefn Mawr and District had to run for many decades.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is a miner's pick axe, unusual in that it has its owner's name on it. It is one item in a small collection of mining memorabilia in the Museum.
Object of the Week
Our Objects this week, recently donated, are a selection of pastilles and plasters that would have been around any home in case of need.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is from a recently donated collection of bottles. It contained 'fancy' green writing ink, especially useful, says the bottle, for accountants and auditors. It takes us back to a pre-computer age, when everyone wrote by hand with pen and ink.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is a metal plate advert for Ling's Victory Garage in Ruabon. Anybody know why it was called the Victory Garage?
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is a School cookery book, dated 1915, taken from our current special Kitchen exhibition.
Object of the Week 18.9.17
Our Objects of the Week, recently donated, are long-service awards from Monsanto. They were awarded to people who had clocked up 25, 30 or 35 years’ Service.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is a model vehicle from a substantial collection recently given to us. We hope to have a special display of them before long.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is a tin of Edwards' Desiccated Soup, taken from our new Special Exhibition, 'Women should be in the kitchen'. It was powdered and, as the tin says, was suitable in its Brown variety for gravies, hashes and stews as well as soups.
Special Exhibition
Our new Special Exhibition is called 'Women Should Be In The Kitchen', and has been put together by Laura Davies. It displays familiar items from the kitchens of yesteryear, as well as recipe books from the same period. The Exhibition will run until the end of November.
