The Museum would normally be open this Saturday, the second of the month. But we shall be attending the annual Ruabon Village Fête, so will be hosting a stall on the Recreation Field between St Mary's and Maes-y-Llan schools. The Fête is open from 1-00pm. We hope to see you there!
Object of the Week
Our Object of the Week this week is a desktop calendar with a distinctly royal theme — one of a number of objects that we have with royal associations.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is a colour print of the Newbridge Viaduct, dated 1848, from the Illustrated London News, published shortly after it was constructed and opened.
Special Visit!
A red-letter day for us! We received a visit from Jane, great-granddaughter of the first JC Edwards, who came with members of her family to see our display about the firm. Here she is, holding a bust of William Gladstone, with Phil Vaughan, one of our volunteers.
Object of the Week
Our Object of the Week has, fittingly, royal wedding associations! This letter was sent out by the then Princess Elizabeth following her own wedding in 1947. She had been sent gifts of food from overseas donors, reflecting the severe rationing going on at that time, and wished to share the food in turn with others, presumably including a recipient in the Cefn area.
Object of the Week
Our Object this week is another photo of Ruabon, this time of Henry Street, as it was about a hundred years ago.
Object of the Week
Our Object of the Week is a recently donated programme of a concert by the Cammell Laird Brass Band in the George Edwards Hall in aid of the Druids United Development Fund, back in November 1968. The concert included Rossini's Overture to 'The Barber of Seville', Strauss's Waltz 'Morning Papers', and a movement from a Mozart Horn Concerto, as well as a selection from 'Mary Poppins' and other band favourites.
Object of the Week
Our Object of the Week this week is a bush hat, a souvenir of the Burma Campaign.
Object of the Week
Our Objects this week are time-honoured sewing machines, out in force for our special Vintage Needlecrafts Exhibition. They must be many decades old, but are still in fine condition.
Object of the Week
Our Object of the Week is a pretty ferocious remedy for everything from whooping cough to flu, colds and catarrh. The 'vapourizing fluid' was not, however, to be swallowed, as it was clearly poisonous!
